flood in sambalpur

Incessant rain over the past 24 hours made the normal living of the people miserable in sambalpur town on Tuesday. Many parts of the town submerged in rain water creating a havoc situation in the town. Many houses in housing board Colany, Modipara, Malipara, Danipali, JM colaony and SRIT colony waterlogged because of the poor drainage system of the town. People living from the low land have been evacuated and given shelter in safer places. “I have directed the officials to keep a close watch of the situation”, collector PK Patnaik told. The meteorology department records 246 mm of rain fall during last 24 hours. On the other hand the Hirakud dam has closed all gates except one opened earlier in view of the heavy rain in the down stream. On Tuesday the dam discharged on 47, 829 cusec water through one gate and canal. The water level of the reservoir is 417.71 on Tuesday with an inflow of water 3, 33,088 cusec
